INTRODUCTION

A critical issue on all airports, industrial sites and municipal firefighting operations is an adequate supply of foam.  Foam supplies must be mobile and easily used when needed at an emergency scene.  The solution is found in the Fire Wagons foam unit line of emergency response trailers.

These units can be designed for foam supply, foam attack or a combination of the two tactical situations.  Sizes range from 300 to 2000 gallons of foam concentrate and are built to withstand years of emergency use.

TRAILER FEATURES

The frame of the unit is constructed of welded tubular steel material with tubular steel cross members eighteen inches on center. The design forms a "cradle" in which the polypropylene tank rests.  Diamond plate fenders and running boards are provided.  The running boards and fenders attach to the six inch frame with a continuous weld to provide a structurally sound unit.  Aluminum tread plate overlay is installed on deck areas used for transfer pumps, generators or other equipment.

Al-Ko Torsion axles (or equal) are installed on the unit.  Each wheel has individual 12" x 2" electric brakes.  E-Z lube oil bath hubs are provided on all wheels.  Wheels are aluminum 16" 8-hole.

Pintle type adjustable height hitch is provided with an emergency break-away system consisting of the switch, cable, battery and battery box (less battery charger) to automatically activate the electric brakes in event of a disconnect from the hitch.

Scissors type rear jack stands are provided for stability when a rear platform is specified.

Two white platform work lights are provided. D.O.T. standard brake lights and directional signals – LED type, recessed and protected from accidental damage. Optional wrap-around type red warning lights are available for each fender.

FOAM TANK FEATURES

Foam tanks are constructed out of ½" thick, natural or white PS III polypropylene. PS III polypropylene is a non-corrosive, U.V. stabilized thermo-plastic.  The tank is designed to be completely independent of the trailer.  A microprocessor-controlled extrusion welding process is used to insure a 100% weld penetration through the thickness of the plastic for maximum strength and durability.  All exposed edges on the tank are rounded off to a ¼" radius.

The baffles (swash partitions) are made out of 3/8" natural PS III polypropylene.  They are designed to permit maximum foam and airflow throughout the tank.  The design of the baffles allows the tank to twist and flex with the trailer adding to the integrity and durability of the tank.  The baffles are also interlocking with each other.  The baffles are welded to each other as well as to the tank sides, ends and bottom of the tank.  The baffles are mechanically connected to the top of the tank.  This will keep the tank top ridged when fast filling.

PUMP AND PLUMBING

A variety of transfer pumps are available for Fire Wagons foam trailers.  All pumps feature bronze, stainless or anodized aluminum construction and mechanical seals for long life corrosion protection.  Pump engines can be either gasoline or diesel.  The standard centrifugal pump is designed to transfer most common foam concentrates.  An optional rotary gear pump is available for special high viscosity foams.

All plumbing is stainless steel schedule 40 welded pipe.  Victaulic flex joints and brass ball valves are utilized throughout.
